Using Color Themes for Designs

I’ve recently come across a fun new tool from the design professionals at Adobe. It’s Kuler.

Kuler is an online respository of color themes that are sorted and voted on – a little Web 2.0 community for color enthusiasts. We’ve utilizied this tool when creating new murals, and are happy to use it again based on client request.

This tool is excellent for pulling up new ideas for mural use, as well as other A&D and printing projects, however one has to be cautioned that the colors here are not necessarily printable. Some colors are outside of the printing capability of many wide format printers. Color problems often occur with very light colors, very dark colors, greens, oranges, and flourescents/neons.

JellyFish UnderWater Mural

This jellyfish underwater mural  is incredibly layered and can be adjusted to replace the jellyfish with other objects of similar style.  Consider floating text, or product examples.  All layers are separate for easy customization to end user needs.

The image is 20,000 pixels wide by 7,200 pixels tall.  The saturated/bright color choices of the jellyfish are offset by the fact that they are actual Jelly Photographs.

As always, LateralArt is happy to custom design to your dimensions and specific design needs.

Energetic WallcoveringStripes Mural

Taking a cue from existing vertical stripe wallcovering, this exciting image also borrows from hanging curtains with the color variations.  This is a very exciting mural that provides energy to a space.

The image was created from a base palette that can be replaced with your custom palette. Color Adjust, and shadow layers are separate for easy customization to end user needs.

  • The image is 20,000 pixels wide by 7,200 pixels tall.
  • Image of suitable quality to be interpolated to a larger image.  The image can be stretched to a longer image, or recreated to a larger size/ larger width. with little to no degradation.

HighTech MagicGlow Mural

This wavy graphic concept is best printed with UV inks on a glossy medium with well placed lighting.  This image, or an image like it (which can be produced) can follow the curves of a wall, a stair case, product shelves, doors, windows, and more.  Mural components can and should flow around architectural images.

Other variations of this graphic image for a mural include purple and teal colors, giving it a more pixie-disneyesque-magical feel.

  • The image is 20,000 pixels wide by 7,200 pixels tall.
  • Most of the imagery is created with layer styles, so interpolation to a larger image is not a problem.
  • The background is a simple black gradient, and can be changed out as necessary.

As always, LateralArt is happy to custom design to your dimensions and specific design needs.

CreativeFont LiveText Mural

Typography can be used in so many ways in a digitally printed wall mural.  Wide, Thick Letters can be used for substance, repeated words can add depth when blur and size are varied, variation of orientation allows for a constructive form, and font use certainly determines mood.  In this mural image built on one single word, we have a striking concept ready to own a wall. All elements are individually created for easy replacement by the end designer.  This mural can be recreated using a new font, and new word.   Colors are arbitrary, and can utilize your palette.

  • The image is 20,000 pixels wide by 7,200 pixels tall.
  • The image can be created to any width, as long as there are letters to fit, and either you have a large palette, or can accept repeating colors.
